Newly Designed Foot Device Help Tennis Pros Concentrate on their Game, Not their Pain
By Gail M. Lassner
Many athletes are unaware that the misalignment of their feet is the root of many health problems, commonly including back and knee pain. Just ask professional tennis players and sisters Shikha and Neha Uberoi, who count on putting their best feet forward while on the court. Both ranked close to the top 100 players in the world, being comfortable and having optimum support on their feet is essential to their game.
Until recently for the two, doing so meant severe foot and knee pain, the result of six hour daily practices on hard courts with feet desperately in need of better support.
Shikha and Neha sought treatment from Dr. Marc Klein (www.drmarcklein.com) who has been practicing Podiatric Medicine for more than 25 years. “The number one ailment afflicting tennis players is knee problems”, says Dr. Klein. This develops as a result of an increased amount of torque endured by the knee caused by abnormal biomechanics in the feet,” he explained.
Dr. Klein has been involved in the development of a new technology for a foot orthotic deigned to improve health from the ground up. This new design called the Icon Orthotic, is custom designed with a foam cast mold that makes full contact with the curvature of each person’s arch. The newly developed orthotic supports the foot as it lifts the arch into its proper position, resulting in the utmost support to the lower extremity. The older technology, made from plaster casting without full contact, does not allow full support of the lower extremity, consequently resulting in body pain for some individuals.
Now wearing the newly designed Icon Orthotics, as Shikha and Neha prepare for the upcoming WTA tour featuring matches in Bangalore India, Dubai, Doha, and Indian Wells, California, a relieved Neha says, “now I can concentrate better on my game.” “Icon Orthotics are by far the best that I have ever worn,” adds Shikha. They make it easier for me to stay on my toes much longer and are preventing injuries. They also control a lot of my lower back tightness,” she said.
No pain no gain? Not in this case. The Uberoi sisters have experienced not only a relief from pain, but also an improvement in their concentration which will undoubtedly result in an improvement to their games.
